Temecula Is About An Hour Northeast Of San Diego And A 1.5 Hours Southeast Of L.a., In The Inland Empire. Much Of The I.e. Is Famous (and, Thus, Avoided) For Its Hot, Vast Deserts, But Temecula Benefits From A Slightly Higher, Cooler Elevation That Makes It Perfect For A Few Different Things: Wine Cultivation, Outdoor Recreation, And Some Traditional Rest And Relaxation.

Though it's not especially well known outside of California, Temecula has been a major destination for vacationers since the 1980s, when vinophiles began arriving by the droves on the newly constructed Highway 15 to sample offerings from local wineries. Today, the Temecula American Viticultural Area spans 33,000 acres and is home to 47 wineries.

Afterwards, you sip your way through the region, you’ll want to set aside plenty of time to check out what’s happening elsewhere, particularly in Old Town, Temecula’s bustling downtown.

“Temecula is a wine destination, but what really makes it special is the combination of all the activities you can do here,” says Cherise Manning, co-owner of Grape Escape Balloon Adventures. “You can start with a hot air balloon ride in the morning, followed by an amazing breakfast. From there, you can spend the afternoon wine tasting, and in the evening, you can be in a world-class casino for gaming or entertainment.”
