Corn maze, pumpkin patch, car show and race through the corn, fall fun for all

For the 13th year in a row, Big Horse Feed Store will host the Big Horse Corn Maze and Harvest Festival, celebrating Temecula Valley's Autumnfest season. There will be events each weekend and crowds are expected in record numbers. With the corn maze theme of "Proud to be an American," this year the Big Horse Corn Maze has its own hash-tag #ProudAmerican.

Consistent with military themes of years' past, special military events will be held throughout weekends in October. With corn stalks edging 7-feet tall, the public is invited to get lost in the maze and rekindle a bit of nostalgia this fall in Temecula.

The Harvest Festival is open daily, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Tuesday - Friday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., and closed Mondays with the exception of the last Monday prior to Halloween. The maze is just one of the many activities that will take place at the Festival.

The ALS Association's Golden West Chapter invites visitors to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge every weekend in October. October 3 brings in the Car Craze at the Corn Maze, with appearances from the Monster Truck Big Foot, as well as a showcase of classic cars, trucks, and rides from back in the day. Sunday, Oct. 4, will provide more 50s fun with games and classic 1950s nostalgia.

The weekend of October 10 salutes the military by offering discounts for military families all weekend long. Saturday, Oct. 10, brings back the A-Maze-ing Race fundraiser, a 5-k Color Fun Run through the corn maze. Following the timed 5k race, entrants must jog through the corn maze - and try their luck at getting colored-or not. Registration for the race opens at 7 a.m.

October 17 and 18 will be the All American Weekend with baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie available all weekend long, along with other harvest themed activities.

October 24 and 25 will bring the Old Fashioned Farm Days, with special activities guaranteed to make grandma and granddad smile. Learn how to churn butter, watch pigs race, pan for gold or bob for apples. This weekend treat will harken to the good ole' days at Big Horse Corn Maze and Harvest Festival.

"[The maze] provides families that don't have horses to experience the farm and also see that we aren't just a place that only sells feed for animals," states Big Horse Feed owner Rose Corona.

Other focuses of the Harvest Festival include education and agriculture classes. The Corona family offers the opportunity for students and teachers to come and experience agriculture in action.

"We have a program that allows children to see how and where their food is grown, as well as the natural recycling process Mother Nature plays in producing our food, and how plants and animals work together in the growing process," Corona stated.

Kids get to experience a bit of the history of old Temecula, by riding out to the pumpkin field on a real hay wagon. Kids can explore the growing crops, pick pumpkins, and learn about the farm animals in the Big Horse Animal Sharing Center.
The Corona family still finds the fun amid the stalks as they enter another beloved harvest season.

During the Corn Maze and Harvest Festival, a special MAZE Hot-Line has been established for questions and inquiries, 951-389-4621. Big Horse Feed is located at 33320 Temecula Parkway, Temecula, California 92592.
