Fans of Nick Swardson know the Minneapolis, Minn. comedian has been a staple of the stand-up comedy circuit and cable comedy landscape for more than 15 years. In an article in the Portland Mercury, Swardson says he started performing stand-up "as a goof." He was 18 at the time. The story goes that the club's owner encouraged him to perform again and he went on to claim the award for the "Funniest Person in the Twin Cities." Swardson began getting noticed within comedy circles and eventually left the Minneapolis area for New York City and later moved to Los Angeles. His stand-up act was featured in a 2001 Comedy Central Presents special, meanwhile his Hollywood comedy connections continued growing. In 2003, he joined the cast of "Reno 911!" in the role of Terry Bernardino. The Minneapolis City Pages suggests Swardson's biggest break came when comedy star Adam Sandler called him out of nowhere. Sandler said he was a fan and wondered if Swardson would be interested in collaborating on the script for "Grandma's Boy." The assignment turned out to be the first of many he would complete alongside Sandler.
